Denver, CO. -   The 118th playing of the TMGA Amateur Championship commenced today at Denver Country Club with a new competitive course record setting the pace.  BYU Senior David Timmins seven (-7) under leads the way by one shot over Juri Zuska. Timmins scorecard included one eagle, six birdies and a lone bogey.  “I stuck to my gameplan that I devised during my practice round and remained diligent in my club selection off the tee.  I also hit three or four wedged to tap in range”, stated Timmins.   While the 69th WAGR ranked Zuska turned the front nine at even par, he scorched the back nine shooting 29 which included a bogey.  Jiri Zuska stands in 12th place on the points list after 4 series events and would dramatically improve his position with a top finish this week.

Six players sit at -5, including Connor Gaunt, Connor Jones, Cooper Davis, Frank Lindwall, Mathew Comegys, and Carson Bacha.  Three more players sit three back at (-4) to finish out the top ten.  That group includes Jay Livsey, one of the eleven Mid-Ams in the field, William Mouw, and Andi Xu.

Denver Country Club has hosted several Trans-Miss Championships through the club’s distinguished history.  Over 80 club members are volunteering for the event by providing host housing, spotters and scoring for the championship.  The course plays just over 7000 yards, par 70 with today's average score of 70.6.

After a perfect morning for golf with mid 70 temperatures and mild winds, the afternoon became a start and stop affair with pop up lightning stopping play on two separate occasions.  With players just making the turn for the final nine after the second delay, play resumed at 6:55 PM and all but one group managed to complete play at 8:55 PM.  Play will resume at 7:30 AM and round two tee times will commence stating on time at 8:00 AM.

The TMGA Amateur Championship is part of the new Elite Amateur Golf Series which kicked of this summer.  Top players from the series will earn PGA Tour starts, Korn Ferry Tour starts and exemptions into the US Amateur and into the finals of US Open qualifiers in 2023.
