ORO VALLEY SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
 January 8-9, 2022 LOCAL RULES

 

Play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf and by the following Local Rules, Conditions, and Definitions. 

 

Format: 

Individual 36-hole Stroke Play competition

 

Teeing Area:  

Championship Division – Black tee markers (Black/Blue combination yardage 6,465)

Gross/Net Division - Blue tee markers (Blue/Silver combination yardage 5,960)

 

Time of Starting:

See note under Rule 5-3a

 

Standards of Player Conduct:

Rule 1.2a/1 – Meaning of Serious Misconduct

 

Out of Bounds:

Out of bounds is defined by white stakes, roads, boundary fences, or private property.

All public roads; A ball that crosses the inside edge of a road or curb defined as out of bounds and comes to rest beyond the road or curb is out of bounds, even though it may be on another part of the course.

 

Penalty Areas:

Red and Yellow stakes and/or lines shall define penalty areas. 
Optional Ball Drops are available on holes #2, #7, #8, & #15 defined by white circle and signage.

Note: Wall/fence left of #15 green is red penalty area. Provided ball is outside hazard (not touching wall), relief may be taken in drop area.

 

Status of Cart Paths:

Concrete paths shall be treated as immovable obstructions and arranged decorative rock adjacent to path is consider a part of the path; all other paths shall be treated as integral parts of the course.

 

Integral Parts of the Course:

Includes (a) wrappings, wires and cables when closely attached to objects and (b) artificial walls and pilings when located in penalty areas or within and/or around bunkers. (Free relief is not allowed)

 

Ground Under Repair:

(a) Areas defined by white lines (except ball drops)

(b) French drains, which are trenches, filled with rocks or stones. (c) Flower beds. (d) Newly Trenched Areas and Sod Seams. Relief is for lie of ball or area of intended swing only.

 

Practice During Round:

"Between the play of two holes, a player must not make any practice stroke on or near the putting green of the hole last played and must not test the surface of the putting green of the hole last played by rolling a ball.

Rule 5.2 General Penalty (applied to the player’s first hole)

 

Inclement Weather Policy:

The Committee reserves the right to reduce the number of holes played for inclement weather under Rule 33-1/2.

 

GPS and Hand-Held Range Finders:

Participants are permitted to use distance only measuring devices.  (Rule 4.3) allowing distance-only measuring devices in competition.

 

Utilize the Blue Gate Golf Cart System:  enter through blue stakes to the fairway and exit through the blue stakes in front of the green. Carts must remain on the paths on par 3’s and are not permitted behind or within 30 yards of any green.

Restrooms: Located in the restaurant, hole #6 Tee, #14 Green and #17 Tee.

Scoring:  All scoring is digital through Golf Genius app. At completion of play confirm scores with golf staff in front of the Pro Shop. Credit book results will be available online upon completion of play. Prizes for ties will be split evenly except for 1st place. All ties for 1st place gross only in each division will be broken by a sudden death playoff.    

PROMPT PACE OF PLAY: 2 hours max per 9 holes of golf. The general rule to follow for the pace of play is to keep
up with the group in front of you. Play at a prompt pace throughout the round, including time taken to:

  • Prepare for and make each stroke - When it is your turn to play: It is recommended that you make your stroke in no more than 40 seconds after you are (or should be) able to play without interference or distraction.
    PLAY READY GOLF

UNREASONABLE DELAY: You must not unreasonably delay play, either when playing a hole or between two holes. Penalty for Breach of Rule 5.6a: *Penalty for first breach: One penalty stroke *Penalty for second breach: General penalty *Penalty for third breach: Disqualification

BALL LOST OR OUT OF BOUNDS: Your ball is lost if not found in three minutes after you begin to search for it.

PROVISIONAL BALL: If your ball might be lost outside a penalty area or be out of bounds, to save time you may play another ball provisionally under the penalty of stroke & distance (1 stroke penalty) Before your provisional stroke is made, you must announce this fact to your playing partners, it is not enough for you only to say that your are playing another ball or are playing again. You must use the word provisional or otherwise clearly indicate that you are playing the ball provisionally under rule 18.3.

EMBEDDED BALL: Rule 16.3a – When Relief is Allowed:  relief is allowed only when your ball is embedded in the general area. FREE RELIEF – the reference point for taking relief is the spot right behind where the ball is embedded. A ball must be dropped in and come to rest in the relief area. Relief is NOT allowed when your ball is embedded in sand in a part of the general area that is not cut to fairway height or less, or when interference by anything other than your ball being embedded makes your stroke clearly unreasonable (for example when you are unable to make a stroke because of where your ball lies in a bush)

GOLF CART USE: Golf carts are optional during the competition for participants. Cart rental fee is covered by the tournament entry fee. A maximum of two carts per group will be allowed. Masks are recommended.

 In addition, the following policies will be enforced: Spectator carts are not permitted.

> Carts are assigned only to contestants. A caddie may use a cart only if a contestant is not displaced by such use.    Two persons per cart only.

> Carts must enter the fairway between the blue stakes near the tee box. Stay in the fairway and exit fairway between blue stakes near the green. Keep carts on paths within 30 yards of tees and greens.

> Any non-player riding with a player is considered a caddie and subject to any potential rule’s violations.

> Walking is available as long as the player can keep up with the pace of play.


 

Please repair ball marks on greens, fill divots with sand & seed bottles on the cart, and rake bunkers.
