Amateur Entry Fees:

Amateur Eligibility: This tournament is open to male amateur members of MSGA Member Clubs with an up-to-date USGA Index of 7.1 or less. The handicap index must be at the member club shown on the entry form and current before and after the close of registration and the date of the event. The handicap index must also be viewable on GHIN.com. 

 

Entries may be rejected by the MSGA at any time, including during the competition. Reasons for rejection may include unbecoming conduct, violating host club policies, or failing to comply with the requirements of the handicap system.

 

Professional Eligibility: The Maryland State Open is open to male professionals who are: Middle Atlantic PGA members or registered associates; employed by MSGA member clubs; or residents of Maryland.

 

Exemptions from Qualifying for Maryland State Open: Designated players shall be exempt from local qualifying and will advance to the first two rounds of stroke play at Manor Country Club to be held Monday, July 11 and Tuesday, July 12. Exempt players can be found here. An exempt player must also meet the previously outlined eligibility requirements of the Championship. An exempt player must submit an entry on a timely basis. 

 

Refund Policy: A withdrawal prior to seven (7) days of the event will receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee. There will not be a refund if a withdrawal is received less than seven days prior to the event without written medical excuse. Medical refunds will also be subject to a $25 processing fee.

 

Championship Information


Format/Field Size: Eighteen (18) hole qualifying rounds will be held at Hunt Valley CC on Thursday, April 28; at Northwest GC on Monday, May 2; at Hobbit's Glen GC on Monday, May 9 and at Queenstown Harbor GL on Thursday, May 17. The MSGA will make the final course assignments.

 

The number of qualifying places shall be that number required to provide a minimum starting field of 120 players (including the exempt entrants) at Manor Country Club on Monday, July 11. Any ties for the last qualifying score at each site shall advance to the first two rounds at Manor Country Club. Any withdrawal from this field will be filled by blind draw from a pool of the remaining low scorers at the four qualifiers, which will be listed on the website. The Maryland Open will be 54 holes of stroke play with all players playing 36 holes, and then the field will be cut to the low 40 scorers and ties for the final round. 

 

Carts: At Manor Country Club, automotive transportation is prohibited for players AND caddies - a player may either carry his own bag or bring his own caddie. Push carts are permitted. Spectator Carts will not be permitted during this championship with the exception of a spectator who can provide an issued and active Handicap Permit.  

 

Starting Times: Tournament Starting Times will be emailed approximately seven (7) days before the event. Times can also be found by visiting the 101st Maryland State Open Tournament Portal or www.msga.org.

 

Prizes:  Trophy – winner and low amateur.  The MSGA will offer a cash prize purse to professionals based on the number of professionals that sign up: i.e. if  100 or more professionals -$45,000; 80 professionals - $40,000,  60 professionals - $35,000, etc. Amateurs will receive merchandise certificates as prizes.  In the event of a tie for the Championship and/or low amateur (Harry Pitt Trophy), a hole-by-hole play-off will follow immediately upon the completion of play.


Rules:  USGA Rules of Golf govern all play. The player is also responsible for being familiar with Local Rules and Conditions of Competition for MSGA Championships
