Northern Counties Junior Jamboree - Tuesday August 2nd to Wednesday August 3rd 2022
Dear player and parent(s),
We will soon be selecting six junior girl players to represent Northumberland in the annual Junior Jamboree, played between the six northern England golf counties.
The event is a fun one for junior girls with a handicap index higher than 15 and up to about 45 and is played over two days. We travel down by minibus on the morning of the first day to have official photos and a lunch (laid on by the organising county) then each girl plays a round of golf (stableford) with girls from the other counties. There is a team meal provided for the competitors when they get back to the clubhouse then we decamp to our team hotel for the evening and usually play a few games before bed.
On day 2, the girls will have been seeded according to their stableford points from the previous day and will each play a match (off handicap) against a girl from one of the other counties who achieved similar points to them. The emphasis of the match will be very much on fun and gaining experience and there is a points system in place to ensure that even losing competitors win points for their county. There’s then a final team meal and presentation before we jump in the minibus and drive home, arriving back some time in the evening.
The girls who play always find it a fun, rewarding experience and bond as a team over the two days (as you can see from the picture of the 2021 team above).
Lancashire will be hosting the 2022 competition at Heysham Golf Club and we will be staying at the Premier Inn in Lancaster on the night of the 2nd. The Northumberland Ladies County Golf Association pay most of the cost of the trip but we do need to ask for a small contribution of £50 from parents to help us out.
Carol and I will be with the girls throughout the trip and will look after them well, but parents are welcome to travel to the event too and to stay in the same hotel if that would be of benefit to their child.
Please could you let us know asap if you are available for selection?
