Match Play Information

Match Play Scoring Terms - Designated as “Up, Even or Down”. Even is also referred to as “All Square or AS”.

Match play scoring is based on who wins each hole and the scorecard match status is done from the perspective of the person/team keeping score. As the scorekeeper, if you win the hole, you will mark your card "+1"  and if you lose the hole, you will mark your card -1. This means you are 1-up or 1-down in the match.

Let's say you're 1-up (so your scorecard reads "+1") and you lose the next hole. Then you're back to "AS or =”. But if you're 1-up and win the next hole, your scorecard now reads "+2" (for 2-up in the match). If a hole is tied between the team/player, then the status doesn’t change from the running score of the last hole.

The Match ends when one player is up by more holes than the number of remaining holes. For example, if a player is 3 Up and there are only 2 holes left to play, the match is over because the trailing player cannot make up the difference. If any match ends in a tie, then each team gets ½ point.
