As we get into the heart of the golfing season to introduce myself. I am delighted and honoured to have the chance to be your Club Captain for 2022-23. Since I joined The Addington back in 2015, I have been made to feel most welcome by all the members, one of the redeeming qualities for our membership and one that is often quoted and continuous throughout our club.

Being a relative late starter to golf, I started after the knees and back said “No!” to rugby and football and have

now been playing golf for the last twenty years, and as many will know, am besotted with the game, even if my scores do not always reflect it.

However, it was coming to The Addington, that I fully embraced the wonders and challenges that our “playground” delivers, and it is with that backdrop that I hope that others also enjoy, be they seasoned long standing members, or relative newbies.

The Addington spirit and ongoing developments of the course, make it one that I continue to enjoy, and hope to support others in enhancing their enjoyment.

During my captaincy, I am delighted to confirm that I will be supported by my Vice Captain, Tim Croft, who has been golfing on and off for 40 years and will be a great asset to me during this year, as well as ensuring positive continuity when he takes over the reins next year. Tim will be a great asset to the club.

As the year gets underway, we will start to see the “red shirt” majors coming into our calendars, which I encourage you all to enter as many as possible and maximise attendance via Golf Genius. Golf tee times and competition places tend to go pretty quickly, so do please get your entries going as early as possible.

Other events coming your way will be the Captain/Pro Challenge, where our Professional, Phil Womack, and I challenge you the erstwhile members in a competitive Fourball Betterball match play… and we are convinced that we will take on and defeat all comers.

Additionally, some other planned highlights of the coming year with dates to be confirmed, are the return of the successful Hickory club challenge, some Ryder cup style events versus AGS, as well as some Team Ernie and Team Tim challenges, Wednesday Evening no money 11 hole Captains’ Social Roll-Ups (from c530 - 6pm), a “Gentlemen’s” evening for fine wine and dining, the opening of the practice areas, as well as some other pairs, socially orientated golf (and even some off site events) designed to enhance the fun and enjoyment for the members, both competitive and non-competitive events.

More detailed information to follow throughout the year!

The Addington Calendar is already full of exceptionally good events that I will contact you all to promote and encourage, but again, keep looking at Golf Genuis, our go-to portal for all things at The Addington. I would be delighted if these events which are open to all members can be fully supported.

During my Captain's year the Charity I will be raising money for will be Sarcoma Cancer UK. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. Often referred to as the “teenage cancer” it is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By supporting me, we can help change this and raise awareness.

I am looking forward to enjoying the year, getting some fun events in , playing some great and average golf, raise a few funds and glasses, and mostly seeing smiles and energy aplenty… we may even share a fairway or three.

Come, stay and enjoy

Yours in Golf!
