The Competition

  1. Sussex County General Conditions apply in this Event.
  2. The format of the Competition will be Foursomes Knockout played over 18 holes on handicap with a Final of 18 holes.  Halved matches are allowed. 
  3. Handicap index limit is 28
  4. Stroke allowance - Each Pair's playing handicap is 50% of their aggregate course hadicaps. Shots are given to the higher pair based on 100% of the difference.
  5. The Team is to consist of four pairs
  6. The Note to Rule 24.4a of the Rules of Golf will apply and each team may appoint one specified person as an advice giver.  The advice giver is the only person, apart from each player’s partner or caddy, authorised to give advice during play. If the advice giver is also playing in the competition they MUST NOT give advice as the nominated advice giver until they have finished playing.  Penalty for breach of Rule 24.4 is the General Penalty.
  7. No player may represent more than one Club in any one year
  8. Clubs that have more than one course must use the main course for each match.              
  9. Players and caddies will walk at all times Transportation Policy (englandgolf.org)
  10. Matches including the Final are to be played on the dates stipulated by the County (all dates can be found on the County website). The time of the match is flexible and should be decided between the two Clubs. If a Club finds that it is unable to host the match on the stipulated date then the Home advantage will be conceded to the opposing team.
  11. Home clubs will be nominated in advance on the matchplay draw sheet. Arrangements will be made for the Semi-Finals and Finals to be played on a neutral course when the County will entertain the teams to lunch. The catering expenses to be shared by both teams in matches up to and including the Quarter-Finals.
  12. The home club will give the first tee honour to their opponents. In the semi-finals and finals, the Captains of the teams to toss for the honour.
  13. In the event of a tie the match will be decided by one existing pair from each side being nominated to play “sudden-death”. The pairs do not need to be nominated until a tie occurs and they do not need to have played against each other in the match.

Plate Competition

  1. “The Gilbert Print Plate” will be made available for all Clubs eliminated in the first and second rounds of “The Cyril Blake Cup”.  The Rules of the “Cyril Blake Cup” will also apply to the “Gilbert Print Plate”.

Qualification

  1. Clubs must be registered on the WHS Platform and players all have a WHS Handicap Index to be eligible to enter this competition. Any team in breach of this may be disqualified.
  2. All players must be 55 years old or over on the day of the match.
  3. Team Managers are requested to ensure that every member of their team is a current paid up cardholder of the S.C.G.U. County Card,
  4. A Club will be liable to disqualification if any member of their team is not a registered County Card member on the day of a match.

Other Matters

  1. Results - the Team Captain of the winning Club in each match, is responsible to ensure that the full and correct results are either e-mailed to the County office –countyoffice@sussexgolf.org over the weekend and /or text through to Emma Whitlock, on 07724916600 or the County office following the match. Player names for both clubs MUST be included for the verification of County Card Membership.
  2. Match sheets can be printed from the County website.
  3. It is a condition of entry that the Home Club will allow a courtesy practice rounds to the visiting side from the tees to be used for the event.
  4. The visiting side shall not, under any circumstances, take more than TEN players for a practice round. Those ten should comprise the anticipated team plus two possible reserves.
  5. Arrangements for the practice rounds must be made in advance by the visiting team captain and the Home Club is requested to allow practice as convenient to the visitors as possible.  The practice round is however, also at the convenience of the host club.
  6. County Officials will be delegated to attend the Semi Finals and the Finals for the purposes of adjudication if required. Officials will not be supplied for prior rounds.
  7. A Club drawn at home, having for any reason whatsoever to play on temporary greens, or the course unplayable, will inform the visiting club and if necessary concede the Home Advantage.
