Important to Know About this Event
Teams of four, made up of three Wisley Members and a pro.
It is an 18-hole team Pro-Am charity fundrasing event played in memory of Steven Doublet, a Member of The Wisley who joined shortly after its opening in 1991. He lost his life to cancer at the age of 33 in 1994. Proceeds go to the stewardship of The Wisley Foundation. We began playing a fundrasing tournament in Steven's memory four months after his death.
He loved all sport, especially football. Another passion was high performance sports cars. These are reflected in the design of the trophy which his friends at the Club had especially commissioned. If you see the trophy on display on tournament day you will see how substantial it is. With its marble base and those large blue crystals it's surely a candidate for the heaviest golf trophy ever made.
Thank you for supporting The Wisley Pro-Am for The Doublet Trophy. Whether by taking part in the golf, bidding for one of the auction items, or by donating one of this year's items, The Wisley Foundation and the family and friends of Steven Doublet thank you.
Entry fee: £185 per player.
WHAT TIME DOES THE EVENT START?
The Tournament Brunch starts at 10:00am. We ask all players and professionals to attend the brunch. It sets the tone for the day. Get to know your pro and banter with the other teams. At the brunch we also conduct the selling of the teams; the Calcutta.
Teams will start at a price of £200. We hope you will want a stake in yours.
If someone (not on your team) outbids you, and becomes the owner of your team, there is the option to “buy back” part ownership. Anything up to 50% may be bought back.
The owner(s) of the team that wins the competition receive 40% of the Calcutta fund.
The owner(s) of the 2nd place team receive 15%.
Owner(s) of the 3rd place team get 10%.
The remaining 35% goes to the Wisley Foundation.
We sell a few auction lots as well. After the brunch there will be around 40 minutes to warm up before the 12 o'clock shotgun.
WHAT TIME DOES THE DAY FINISH?
If the weather is good and there are no delays, you should be off the course before 5pm. Then it's a BBQ, drinks and the prize giving, with the event wrapping up by around 6pm
WHAT HOLE WILL I START FROM?
If you want to start from the 1st or 10th you will have to pay for the privilege. We are auctioning those starting positions during the brunch. The remainder will be drawn at random at the brunch.
WHICH PRO WILL PLAY ON MY TEAM?
It depends. There are three different options:
1) Bring your own pro. Perhaps you know a pro from your other Club, or you sponsor a pro, and you'd like to bring him/her to the Pro-Am to play on your team. Each year a handful of teams do it that way. It does require an extra donation of £300 to the charity, but in return your pro will receive that amount from us as an appearance fee.
2) Bid for a pro. Before the tournament we will have the auction where you can bid on a few select pros. This way we raise more money for the charity. Bidding for this year's event will run from the 24th of May - 11th of June.
3) We assign you a pro. If you don't get a pro by either of the two methods above we will assign one to you. There is no cost for this. It's included in your entry fee.
