Following a lengthy day of golf, as some golfers had to finish their first round early this morning and continued right into their second round, a pair of Des Moines Golf & CC members lead the pack at the 40th Iowa Senior Amateur.

Matt Weresh, following a second round 70 (-2), is tied with Chris Kramer who posted the low round of the tournament with 68 (-4) of his own. Both players sit at 143 (-1) for the tournament being contested at Des Moines Golf & CC (pictured above). Joe Palmer and Jon Brown both are positioned just two back of the lead at 145 (+1).

After rain off and on most of the day yesterday, players were welcomed with much better weather conditions on Tuesday. All but one group was able to complete their second round and will return in the morning to finish two holes.

In the Super Senior Division John Peters and Dan Dalziel share the lead at 145 (+1). Both players matched scores the first two rounds with 73-72. Dave Sergeant is just two back of the lead at 147 (+3) and Jim Butler is at 148 (+4).

156 players will compete over the South Course at Des Moines Golf & Country Club on August 20th thru 22nd to try and capture two coveted titles, the overall champion of the Iowa Senior Amateur and the Super-Senior crown for those age 65 and older.

The 156 players marks the largest field since at least 2001 (and possibly ever) for the Iowa Senior Amateur.  Rob Christensen will be looking to defend his Super-Senior Division title while defending overall champion Gene Elliott will be unable to compete due to scheduling conflicts.

Des Moines Golf & Country Club famously hosted the 2017 Solheim Cup last August.  The Solheim Cup course was a mix of 9 holes of the North Course and 9 holes of the South Course at DMG.
