CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION - The following conditions shall be in effect for this competition:

  • GSGA competitions are "spikeless" events. Therefore, metal and traditionally-designed spikes are prohibited. Penalty for breach of this condition is disqualification.
  • The player’s clubs must conform to the groove specifications in The Rules of Golf that are effective from January 1, 2010.

 

PENALTY FOR CARRYING, BUT NOT MAKING STROKE WITH, CLUB OR CLUBS IN BREACH OF CONDITION:  Two strokes for each hole at which any breach occurred; maximum penalty per round – Four strokes.  In the event of a breach between the play of two holes, the penalty applies to the next hole.

Any club or clubs carried in breach of this condition must be declared out of play by the player to his marker or fellow-competitor immediately upon discovery that a breach has occurred.  If the player fails to do so, he is disqualified.

 

PENALTY FOR MAKING STROKE WITH CLUB IN BREACH OF CONDITION:  Disqualification.

  • Amateur players are responsible for posting their scores to the handicap system upon conclusion of this competition. Scores must be posted as tournament scores. Course slope and rating information is typically posted at the scoreboard during the competition. You may also contact GSGA for this information. Your scores are subject to review by your peers and your club's handicap committee.

 

  • DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES ARE NOT ALLOWED.

U.S. Senior Open Qualifying

FIELD

105 players

FORMAT &

QUALIFYING PLACES

18 holes of individual stroke play for 3 qualifying spots and 2 alternate spots in the 2018 U.S. Senior Open Championship to be played June 28-July 1, at The Broadmoor-East Course, Colorado Springs, CO.

PRACTICE ROUNDS

One practice round per player and practice rounds are for players only. Practice rounds will be available on the designated times below. Please call Planterra Ridge Golf Club at 770.487.8141 to reserve your practice round starting time beginning May 18. Practice round cart and range fee is $30 and must be paid regardless of whether or not the player chooses to walk or ride.  CASH & CREDIT CARDS will be the accepted method of payment in the golf shop.

 

  • Monday-Thursday, anytime based on availability
  • Friday – Sunday, after 2:00 p.m. based on availability
  • Wednesday, May 30 for out-of-town players travelling more than 100 miles, based on availability.

CARTS

Practice cart and range fees are $30. CASH & CREDIT CARDS will be the accepted method of payment. During the qualifying round, a caddie may transport a player’s bag on a cart for a fee of $30.  Spectator carts are strictly prohibited in all instances.

YARDAGES & TEES

Yardages are approximate and may be adjusted due to inclement weather or other factors that may affect the playing conditions during the competition. A yardage sheet is available at www.gsga.org through this event portal and at the club.

GOLF SHOP &

DRIVING RANGE:

The golf shop and practice range will open by 6:30 a.m. the morning of qualifying.

STARTING TIMES

Starting times for tournament play will be assigned by the USGA/GSGA and will be posted at the club the day before the qualifying round. You may visit www.gsga.org for complete pairing information and starting times. 

REGISTRATION

NO formal registration will be held on site.  Players should arrive to their assigned starting tee ten minutes before their starting time to allow for the starter to go over instructions and rules of play. Player withdraws must be called in to the GSGA office at (678) 324-5969 or e-mailed to jfages@gsga.org

CADDIES

A player may provide his own caddie. The player is solely responsible for making arrangements for a caddie. The player is not required to employ a caddie for any stage of the Championship. 

RULES OF PLAY/PACE OF PLAY/CART POLICY

PREFERRED LIES

Per the USGA, for all USGA Championships and qualifying rounds, the following policy is in effect: A Local Rule authorizing “Preferred Lies” or “Winter Rules” is NEVER permitted.

PERSONAL APPEARANCE

In Sectional Qualifying stages and the Championship proper, players must be neat in appearance with respect to clothing and personal grooming. The Committee in charge decides whether this requirement has been met, and has the authority to withdraw the entry of a player who does not comply.

FOOD & BEVERAGE SERVICE

Food and beverage service will be available in the clubhouse. CREDIT CARDS only will be accepted for F&B purchases.

PRIZES

A silver medal will be presented to the low scorer at the conclusion of the qualifying rounds.
