Championship Details

 

Date: July 17-22, 2023

 

Location: Chambers Bay | University Place, Wash.

 

Assisting Location: The Home Course | DuPont, Wash.

 

Entry Fee: $240 (USD)

 

Entry Includes: One hosted practice round, two rounds of stroke play qualifying, match play rounds for the 64 players who qualify, tee gift, range balls, crystal awards for medalist and top eight finishers.

 

Entry Deadline: Monday, June 26, 2023 at 4:30 p.m.

 

Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur golfers who: (1) have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index or Golf Canada Handicap Factor not exceeding 4.4, and (2) are members in good standing of a PNGA Member Association (BC Golf, IGA, OGA, WA Golf) or have received a Presidential Invitation.

 

Presidential Invitations: Non-PNGA members may request a Presidential Invitation during entry. Entrants who request a Presidential Invitation will be placed on a pending list for review by the Championship Committee. The Championship Committee reserves the right to request players seeking a Presidential Invitation to submit a resume outlining major accomplishments prior to confirmation of entry.

 

Field Limit: Field will be limited to 156 qualified entrants. At the close of entry, the field of 156 will be filled by the lowest USGA Handicap Indexes and Golf Canada Handicap Factors in addition to exempt players and Presidential Invitees. A list of registered participants with handicap index is available on the event portal HERE.

Registered players who do not make the field of 156 will be placed on a waitlist based on handicap index at the close of entries. A full refund will be issued to all players who do not make the championship field.

 

Format:

  • Stroke Play: 36-hole stroke play to determine 64 qualifiers for match play. A tie for lowest qualifying scorer or last qualifier’s place will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole play-off.

Only the low 64 qualifiers will advance to match play

  • Match Play: A draw based on qualifying scores will be used. Ties in qualifying rounds will be decided by a blind draw, except that places of those participating in a play-off will be determined by performance in the play-off.

 

Schedule:

  • Round 1 – Monday, July 17: 18-hole stroke play at The Home Course.
  • Round 2 – Tuesday, July 18: 18-hole stroke play at Chambers Bay
  • Round of 64 – Wednesday, July 19: 18-hole match play at Chambers Bay
  • Round of 32 – Thursday, July 20: 18-hole match play at Chambers Bay
  • Round of 16 – Thursday, July 20: 18-hole match play at Chambers Bay
  • Quarterfinal – Friday, July 21: 18-hole match play at Chambers Bay
  • Semifinal – Friday, July 21: 18-hole match play at Chambers Bay
  • Final – Saturday, July 22: 36-hole final match at Chambers Bay

 

Practice Round: All players will be allowed one complimentary practice prior to the championship. Player may not schedule their practice round until after the entry deadline.

 

Caddies: A player may provide his own caddie.

 

Carts: The Local Rule prohibiting the use of motorized transportation as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect.

As a general rule, players and their caddies must walk the course at PNGA Championships. But consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a disabled player or caddie may be permitted to use a golf cart as an accommodation to his or her disability. As required by the ADA, the PNGA will evaluate such requests on a case-by-case basis. Exemptions: All past PNGA Men’s Amateur Champions; 2022 PNGA Men’s Amateur Runner-up, Colt Sherrell; Semifinalists, Johnny Carey and Christian Yanagi; Quarterfinalists, Preston Bebich, Tyler Fitchett, Peter Jung, Colby Watkins. Other exempt players: Jeffrey Anderson, Landon Banks, Ian Davis, AJ Ewart, Erik Hanson, Max Herendeen, Jesse Hibler, Jace Minnni, Nate McCoy, Jake Rodgers, Jackson Rothwell, Taehoon Song, and James Leow, and Andrew Von Lossow.
