FIELD LIMIT

Field will be limited to 156 qualified entrants. At the close of entry, the field of 156 will be filled by the lowest USGA Handicap Indexes and Golf Canada Handicap Factors in addition to exempt players and Presidential Invitees. A list of currently registered players with handicap index is available on the event portal HERE.

 

Players who do not make the field of 156 at the close of entries will be placed on a waitlist in order of handicap index. If a spot becomes available, players will be contacted immediately by the PNGA up until the start of the competition. All players who do not make the final field will receive a full refund. 

 

ENTRY DEADLINE

Entry applications, along with the appropriate fee, must be completed or received by the PNGA by
4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023.

 

REFUND POLICY

Refunds due to cancellation before the close of entry are subject to a $10 service charge. After the close of entry and up until round one pairings are released, players who withdraw for any reason will be refunded 50% of the entry fee. No refund for any reason will be issued after round one parings have been released.

 

Note: Players who cancel and are replaced by a player on the waiting list prior to pairings be released will be subject to a $25 service fee.

 

COURSE YARDAGE

Course yardage is subject to change based on weather/course conditions. Hole-by-hole yardages are posted on the championship portal and will be emailed to players.

ONSITE REGISTRATION

All contestants must register in person with the PNGA at The Home Course prior to starting round one play. Registration will be located in the John M. Bodenhamer Pavilion during the following times:

SUNDAY, JULY 16:        11:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

MONDAY, JULY 17:      6:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.           

 

STARTING TIMES AND PAIRINGS

Stroke play starting times for Monday, July 17 and Tuesday, July 18 will be posted on the championship portal and emailed to players on Monday, July 10. Preferred starting times and pairing requests will not be accepted.

 

SCHEDULE

STROKE PLAY: 36-hole stroke play to determine 64 qualifiers for match play. A tie for lowest qualifying scorer or last qualifier’s place will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole play-off after the final group finishes on Tuesday, July 18.

 

All players will play one qualifying round at The Home Course and one qualifying round at Chambers Bay.

 

MONDAY, JULY 17 (The Home Course): Round 1 – Stroke Play Qualifying

Starting times from the #1 & #10 tees: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

 

TUESDAY, JULY 18 (Chambers Bay): Round 2 – Stroke Play Qualifying

Starting times from the #1 & #10 tees: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

 

MATCH PLAY: A draw based on qualifying scores will be used. Ties in qualifying rounds will be decided by a blind draw, except that places of those participating in a play-off will be determined by performance in the play-off.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 19 (Chambers Bay): Round of 64

Starting times from the #1 tee: 7:00 a.m. – 11:08 a.m.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 20 (Chambers Bay): Round of 32 

Starting times from the #1 tee: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 20 (Chambers Bay): Round of 16 

Starting times from the #1 tee: 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

 

FRIDAY, JULY 21 (Chambers Bay): Quarterfinals 

Starting times from the #1 tee: 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 a.m.

 

FRIDAY, JULY 21 (Chambers Bay): Semifinals

Starting times from the #1 tee: 11:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

 

SATURDAY, JULY 22 (Chambers Bay): 36-hole Championship Match followed by an awards ceremony

Starting times from the #1 tee: 7:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.

 

PRACTICE ROUND

Contestants may play one complimentary practice round before the championship at Chambers Bay. Hosted practice rounds are first-come, first-serve during the following times:
 

  • Friday, July 14: 1:36 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 15: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (18-hole) & 4:12 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (9-hole)
  • Sunday, July 16: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (18-hole) & 4:12 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (9-hole)


Players must call the golf shop at (253) 460-4653 to schedule a practice round. All practice round times are at the discretion of the host club staff. Players will be allowed to walk to the golf course in the evenings of Saturday July 15 and Sunday, July 16.

 

Non-hosted practice rounds are available at The Home Course on a space available basis for the PNGA Association rates listed online HERE. Players must call the golf shop at (253) 964-0520 to book a non-hosted practice round and must identify themselves as a PNGA Men’s Amateur contestant to secure the association rate.

 

PRACTICE RANGE

The lower practice range at Chambers Bay will be available for players to use from 6:00 a.m. to dusk during each day of play. The Home Course driving range will be available on Monday, July 17 beginning at 6:00 a.m. for player use. Range balls will be provided each day courtesy of the PNGA

 

STRACKALINE COURSE YARDAGE BOOKS

FOOD SERVICE (NO-HOST)

Chambers Bay – The Chambers Bay restaurant will be open each day from 11:00 a.m. – dusk with full menu service available. The snack stand will be open each day from 6:30 a.m. – dusk with grab and go items as well as drinks available. The Oasis stand located between holes #3/#4 will be open each day at 8:00 a.m.

 

The Home Course – The snack window will be open at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, July 17 with grab and go items as well as drinks available. The Golf House Grill will open at 11:00 a.m. with full lunch service available. Both the snack window and Golf House Grill will remain open until 8:00 p.m.

 

BOTTLED WATER

The PNGA will provide bottled water during the championship. Coolers will be at the starting tee and multiple locations on the golf course. 

 

METHODS OF PAYMENT

Chambers Bay accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and cash. The Home Course accepts all major credit cards and cash.

 

HOURS OF OPERATION

The Chambers Bay golf shop will be open from 5:45 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday – Saturday. The Home Course golf shop will be open from 5:30 a.m. – dusk on Sunday and Monday.

 

LOCKER ROOM

Locker rooms are not available at either facility. Bathrooms are located at the pro shop at both facilities.

 

GOLF CARTS

The Local Rule prohibiting the use of motorized transportation for competitors as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect.

 

SPECTATOR CARTS

To provide an equal championship platform for all competitors, the use of carts by spectators is not permitted by the PNGA.

 

Chambers Bay will not have spectator carts available regardless of ADA status. Chambers Bay player assistant staff will provide periodic transportation to viewing locations on the golf course for spectators in need of assistance. Transportation will not be provided on a shot by shot or hole by hole basis.   

 

CHAMPIONSHIP ACCOMMODATIONS FOR DISABLED SPECTATORS

The PNGA is committed to providing an enjoyable spectator experience for people with disabilities at PNGA championships. Requests from spectators seeking transportation onto the golf course due to a permanent disability, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), should be submitted one week in advance to the PNGA Championship Department. While spectator carts may not always be available at each site, the PNGA will make every effort to accommodate these requests when available.

 

Generally, an ADA covered disability is defined as a “physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of the individual”. See, 42 USCA §12102. Spectators with a “temporary” injury or impairment that is not an ADA disability will not be allowed use of a golf cart under this Policy.

PULL CARTS

Host club pull carts are available for player use at Chambers Bay and The Home Course. Contestants may provide their own pull cart.

 

CADDIES

Host club caddies are readily available at Chambers Bay. Players may call caddie services at (253) 273-0241 to make arrangements. Caddie fees are to be paid directly to caddies following each round at a suggested rate of $100 per round. Players may provide their own caddie. All caddies will be required to wear a caddie bib distributed on the first tee.   

 

PRIZES
A) Stroke Play – A crystal award will be awarded to the lowest qualifying scorer. The medalist’s name will also be engraved on the perpetual trophy. In the event of a tie for medalist honors, the outcome will be determined by a hole-by-hole playoff.

 

B) Match Play – Crystal prizes will be awarded to the champion, runner-up, semifinalists and quarterfinalists. The champion will have his name engraved on the Macan Cup Perpetual Trophy.

 

C) Hole-In-One and Eagle Awards – Awards will be given to any contestant who scores a hole-in-one

during either the stroke or match play portion of the championship. Awards for eagles will be presented to any contestant who scores an eagle during the 36-hole stroke play qualifying.

 

AWARDS CEREMONY

A brief awards presentation ceremony will take place immediately following the final match on Saturday, July 22 at approximately 4:30 p.m. 

 

EXEMPTIONS

The 2023 PNGA Men’s Amateur Champion will receive exemptions into all future PNGA Men’s Amateur Championships and the 2024 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship.

GHIN SCORE POSTING

The PNGA will post competition scores for all players to the USGA GHIN System. Scores will be submitted to BC Golf for posting in Canada.

 

STROKE LIMIT POLICY

Players must return a score within 12 strokes of the course rating in at least one of the two stroke play qualifying rounds. Failure to do so will disqualify the player from entering the PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship for a minimum of one year.

 

DRESS CODE

Players and caddies must be neat in appearance with respect to personal grooming and clothing while on host club property. The PNGA Dress Code Policy is available at the following link: thepnga.org/championship-home/championship-policies/ and will be provided to all players, along with any additional measures required by the host club, in the Player Memorandum.

 

CODE OF CONDUCT

The PNGA expects all contestants, caddies, gallery, and guests to exhibit proper conduct and behavior on the golf course and anywhere on club property during a PNGA championship. Unbecoming conduct or behavior may be grounds for immediate disqualification, at any time, from any PNGA event. The following are some examples of unbecoming conduct or behavior:

 

  • Repeated use of loud, abusive, and/or profane language
  • Throwing and/or breaking equipment (club, ball, etc.) in anger or frustration
  • Damaging host club, PNGA, and/or fellow contestant property
  • Public criticism or verbal abuse of host club, officials, volunteers or staff, and/or PNGA volunteers, staff or fellow contestants
  • Potential endangerment of others
  • Intentionally violating stated club policy
  • Violation of PNGA Dress Code and/or Footwear Policy
  • Other conduct deemed unbecoming

 

The Committee in charge of the competition shall be the sole judge of determining Conduct Code violations.

 

UNOFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL

During play of the championship, a competitor who withdraws must notify PNGA staff and fill out a withdraw form. Entrants who unofficially withdraw (by not notifying PNGA staff or without having sufficient reason to withdraw) will not be granted entry into any future PNGA championship for a minimum of two years.

 

PACE OF PLAY POLICY

Players are encouraged to be familiar with the PNGA’s Stroke Play Pace of Play Policy and the PNGA’s Match Play Pace of Play Policy, which are in effect for this championship.

 

LOCAL RULES AND TERMS OF THE COMPETITION
Players are encouraged to be familiar with the PNGA’s 2023 Local Rules and Terms of the Competition, which will be in effect at all championships.

 

PROHIBITED USE OF AUDIO EQUIPMENT

Rule 4.3 is modified in this way: During a round, a player is not allowed to use an electronic device to listen to music or other audio (such as podcasts or the like), including by using speakers, headphones or earbuds. Penalty for breach of Local Rule - see Rule 4.3.
