Entry & Eligibility Information


Entries Open: Monday, May 01, 2023 at 10:00 AM
Entries Close: Monday, July 10, 2023 at 04:00 PM

 

Entry Fee: $225/team; includes carts and range balls for both players.

Father-Son Championship Eligibility: This tournament is open to amateur or professional fathers and sons or step-sons, at least one of whom on each team must be a member of an MSGA Member Club. Each amateur player must have an up-to-date USGA Index at a licensed club.  The handicap index must be at the club shown on the entry form, must be current on the date of the event, and must be viewable on GHIN.com.

 

Parent-Child Championship Eligibility: This tournament is open to amateur or professional parents and children or step-children, at least one of whom on each team must be a member of an MSGA Member Club. The handicap index must be at the member club shown on the entry form and current before and after the close of registration and the date of the event. The handicap index must also be viewable on GHIN.com. 

 

All entries are subject to rejection by the MSGA at any time, including during the competition. Reasons for rejection may include unbecoming conduct, such as violation of host club policies, or failure to comply with the requirements of the handicap system.

 

Refund Policy: A withdrawal made prior to seven days of the event will receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee. To withdraw prior to the entry deadline, players should do so through their Golf Genius user profile. After the entry deadline has passed players should call the MSGA at 410-653-5300 or email the staff in charge listed below. There will not be a refund if a withdrawal is received less than seven days prior to the event without a written medical excuse. All withdrawals are subject to the $25 processing fee. 

 


Championship Information

Father-Son Division Format/Field Size: The tournament will be 18 holes Four-Ball Stroke Play, GROSS ONLY. All players in the Father-Son Division will play from the MSGA Championship tees. 

 

Parent-Child Division Format/Field Size: The tournament will be 18 holes Modified Alternate Shot (select drives and alternate shot thereafter). Entries will be first come, first served to the first 30 teams. 

 

Flights: Any combination of Parent/Child (Father-Son, Father-Daughter, Mother-Son, Mother-Daughter) can register and will compete in the following flights based on the age of the youngest player. 

 

12-15 Flight | 16-22 Flight | 23-34 Flight | 35+ Flight

 

Carts: Automotive transportation is permitted for player and caddies. The cart fee is included in the entry fee. **New for 2022 - a player and his caddie may ride in a golf cart during a round, but both may not ride at the same time. For pull car policy at the championship site, please contact the host club. Spectator Carts will not be permitted during the championship with the exception of a spectator who can provide an issued and active Handicap Permit. 

 

Starting Times: Tournament Starting Times will be emailed approximately one week before the event. Times can also be found by visiting the 82nd Maryland Father-Son & 2nd Maryland Parent-Child Championship Tournament Portal or www.msga.org.

 

Practice Rounds: Additional information regarding practice rounds will be updated in the coming weeks. 

 

Tournament Yardages: The official tournament yardage will be updated several days before the event.

The estimated yardage will be as follows:

6,500 Yards - Father-Son Championship Division - ALL players in this Division will play from this set of tees

Gold/White (5,000-5,200 yards) - All Females

Green (6,100-6,300 yards) - Males 12-14, Males 65+

Blue/Green (6,400-6,500 yards) - Males 15-59

 

Prizes: The winner of the Father-Son Championship Division will be the team with the low gross score and the names of the team members will be engraved on the “Nathan H. Kaufman Memorial” Trophy. Additional appropriate prizes will be awarded by the MSGA. In the event of a tie for low gross score, a hole-by-hole play-off will immediately follow the completion of play.  There will be no professional prize purse.

 

The gross and net winners and runners-up of the flights in the Parent-Child Division  will be awarded appropriate prizes. Ties for low gross or net score will be resolved by a match of cards according to the USGA recommended method. A team may win only one prize. There will be no professional prize purse.

Rules:  USGA Rules govern all play. The player is responsible for being familiar with Local Rules and Conditions of Competition for MSGA Championships, which appears on www.msga.org.
