Event Fee

Online registration fee is $275, which includes cart, range balls, & dinner, and a $5 non-refundable credit card fee.  There is no additional fee to play in this event.  No club storage will be provided.  Dinner tickets for guests will be available for purchase upon check-in.  Online registration opens May 1.  An optional paper application is available for download beginning April 1, but will not be processed until May 1.

 

NoteEntry deadline for this event is July 21, or when field is filled.  No entry refunds will be allowed after this date. 

 

Your entry will be confirmed by email.  Unless you have an entry confirmation, you are not officially entered in the tournament.  No entries will be accepted at Canyon River Golf Club, Larchmont Golf Course, or The Ranch Club.  A list of confirmed players will be posted on this page (from menu > Players)

 

Requirements:

 

You must be a male amateur player, a current member of the Montana State Golf Association, a legal resident of Montana or an active golfer at an MSGA-member club, and at least 55 years old as of August 1.  An active golfer is defined as: a) a member of a private golf club; b) a season pass holder or member of a public golf course; or c) a player who posts at least 10 rounds from a Montana course within the previous 12 months of application.  

 

A Handicap Index® is required, but there is no maximum limit.  Contestants without an MSGA Member Number (GHIN®#) will not be accepted.  Your online application will serve as your testament of Montana citizenship and/or active status at an MSGA-member club. 

 

Eligibility for Age Classes

Freshman:  Must be between 55-62 yrs old by 8/1/23

Sophomore:  Must be between 63-69 yrs old by 8/1/23

Junior:  Must be between 70-77 yrs old by 8/1/23

Senior:  Must be 78+ yrs old by 8/1/23

 

Competition:

 

Tournament Format
Stroke Play, 54-holes, shotgun start.  Players will be flighted by Handicap Index® and divided into three sections, which play one round at each course.  Handicap revision cutoff is July 22.  Tee yardage for Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior divisions will be 6000-6400 yds, and Senior division will be 5600-6000 yds.

324 players

 

Note:  If the field size is reached, a waiting list will be formed.  You will be notified by email if you are moved off of the waitlist.  If you don't receive an email, check your spam folder or the player list.

 

Tee Times

Tee Times will be emailed, texted, and posted to this page by July 25.  If you would like to receive a text with your tee time, please provide your cell# during registration.

 

Practice Round and Check In
Player is responsible for cost of practice round and cart.  Range ball provisions vary per course.  Beginning July 24, you may call your course of choice to schedule a practice round (Canyon River, 406-721-0222 - $59, $20 cart; Larchmont, 406-721-4416 - $38, $20 cart; The Ranch Club, 406-532-1000 - $75, $20 cart).  Players will check in at The Ranch Club on July 31.

 

Regulations, Personal Appearance
Distance measuring devices are permitted per USGA Local Rule (Decision 14-3/0.5).  No metal or ceramic spikes permitted - soft spikes will be mandatory.  Players are required to wear proper golf attire.

 

Rules of Competition
The USGA Rules of Golf will govern play.  The MSGA Tournament Committee, whose decision will be final, will settle questions.  The competition will be deemed closed when the winners’ awards have been presented.  The lowest 54-hole score overall will be the 2023 Champion.  In case of a tie, there will be a sudden death playoff.  Awards will be presented to the top 4 in each flight.  Ties for age group champions will be determined by the final day’s scorecards (hole#1, #2, etc).  All other ties will split awards.  A complete Rules sheet will be posted and emailed to players the week before the tournament.

 

Schedule
Tuesday, August 1: 1st round - 18 holes,  dinner.  Wednesday, August 2: 2nd round - 18 holes.  Thursday, August 3: Final round - 18 holes,  Awards presentation following competition.  

 

Dinner, Hotel Information

Dinner for players will be on Tuesday, August 1, from 5-7pm at Hilton Garden Inn, 3720 North Reserve Street, in Missoula.  Each player receives one ticket as part of the tournament entry fee.  Additional tickets for guests may be purchased upon check-in.  Hotel and dinner information is posted on this page (from menu > Hotels/Dinner).
