Thank you for registering or sponsoring in the 2023 Advocates Classic, a tournament held at the beautiful Oaktree Golf & Country Club in Edmond, Oklahoma on May 15, 2023, hosted by Advocates for Africa, a non-profit whose sole purpose is to bring hope, compassion, and education to the people of Africa. Your registration goes towards a GREAT cause. Every single dollar will benefit our work to help the poor in Africa.
The Cause
Advocates For Africa is a 501(c)3 non-profit officially formed in 2014, but our work extends well before that time. Founders Jerod and Katina Smith first recognized the great needs of the African people as early as 2003.
Upon the first trip to the continent, Jerod was overwhelmed by the abject poverty and limited access to the message of Christ. By 2006, Jerod and Katina sold everything they owned and moved their family to Rwanda, Africa to begin the work as front-line missionaries.
Over the next several years the work began to grow and make larger and larger impacts in the lives of the Rwandan people. It became apparent that it was time to register the work as an organization and put a name on this great work that God was expanding. Thus, Advocates For Africa was born.
Today AFA makes a point to focus their work in remote villages where access to the Gospel and resources is limited. They have completed projects such as Advocates Christian Academy (pictured above), multiple clean water projects, sponsoring hundreds of children, rescuing women from prostitution then teaching them valuable life skills, church planting and training local pastors.

The Course
The East Course at Oak Tree Country Club is the championship test, far more exacting in its demands than the roomier West Course. The watery final stretch - the half-dozen holes heading toward the clubhouse - showcases the ferocity of the course. The East Course continues to serve as host venue for the highly-regarded Oklahoma Open, traditionally one of the most sought-after state titles in the land.
