Greetings Oneka Ridge Women’s Wednesday PM League Members,

Welcome to the 2023 golf season! The first night of league will be Wednesday, April 19th and run until Wednesday, September 13th (21 league weeks).  The format this year will be similar to last year with a tee time side from 3:30PM to 5:45PM and a shotgun side at 5:30PM.

We are making a slight change this year with the tee time side. To make it fair for all league players on the tee time side, you will need to sign-up your players for a specific tee time each week. Teams will be able to go online to Golf Genius at 8PM on Monday nights to sign-up for a tee time.

If you are on the shotgun side, teams will do the same as they did last year and sign-up on Golf Genius for a starting hole. The change for the shotgun side this year is that sign-ups will be at 8PM on Tuesday nights to allow for more planning time. For both the tee time side and the shotgun side, please only sign-up those players who plan to play that week. Our website and point of sale software is being converted over to Lightspeed (Chronogolf online) and this new software will allow for more efficient management of the operations in the Pro Shop and bar. You will be able to pay for your round each week when you sign-up online.

The league fee will be $135.00 this year, which will go towards weekly payouts on games, proxies, prizes, gift and food for 5 event nights. This fee does NOT include a GHIN handicap.  If you would like to establish a handicap, please e-mail the staff and we can get you set-up for one. GHIN cost is $30. The daily green fee for our league will be $23.00 for 9 holes walking and $33.00 for 9 holes with a cart. Seniors, age 62 and over will be $22 for 9 holes walking and $32.00 for 9 holes with a cart.  You will be able to pay for green fees online or in the Pro Shop the day of league play.

After each event, we will post the winners of the events and proxies on Golf Genius. You can access Golf Genius via the website or by downloading the app on your phone.

Website: www.golfgenius.com

Click sign-in and then enter the GGID for your league.

Tee time side GGID: ONEKA6

Shotgun side GGID: ONEKA5

Events and proxy money won will go into individual accounts in the Pro Shop. You can use this money to buy merchandise in the pro shop including clothing, shoes, golf clubs, balls, tees, gloves, etc. Money cannot be used for greens fees, driving range or for food and beverage. You will always be able to check your credit balance online or in the Pro Shop.

The schedule of events is listed below and is on your Golf Genius page. We received feedback from various ladies in our league so you will notice some of the games have changed this year. Additionally, the payouts will be flighted by average score. We will have two flights, so money will be spread out more evenly among players. There will be two proxies each week on each side that will pay out $15. Additionally, we will offer some cash games on some of the league nights. $5 entry fee per player to be entered and winners are paid out in cash.

Our opening meeting will be on Wednesday April 12th, at 5:30PM.

One person from your team is required to be there as we will be going over all the information you need for the year including explanation of games, payouts, rules, etc. We will be serving food, we will be giving out prizes and will have the cash bar open so you won’t want to miss it.

Golf Event Explanations

Three Hole Throwout: Each player will record their score on each hole. At the end of the round, the Pro Shop will pick three holes at random to be thrown out. Everyone’s scores for these three holes are thrown out. Scores are then added up and the lowest scores win.

Three Score Throwout: Each player will record their score on each hole. At the end of the round, the Pro Shop will throw out your 3 worst scores so you are left with 6 holes to score. Scores are then added up and the lowest scores win.

Bingo, Bango, Bongo: Each player can earn a point on each hole by the following:

Bingo: the first player to hit the green, whether in regulation or not

Bango: the player closest to the pin after all the balls are on the green

Bongo: the first player to get the ball into the cup

Record your points on your scorecard as you go under your regular score. At the end of the round add up the total points and whoever has the most points, is the winner of your group.

Barkie, Wavie, Sandie:

Barkie: If a player's ball hits the trunk or a thick branch of a tree

Wavie: If a player’s ball goes into water (pond or creek)

Sandie: If a player’s ball goes into the sand (fairway bunker or greenside bunker)

4 Person Best Ball: Each player plays her own ball. Record your scores for all players on the team. The best score out of the four players, on each hole will count as your score. Ex. if I get a 5 on a hole and the rest of my group got 6s, the lower score, 5 will be the score on that hole for the team.

Four Suits (Modified 4 Person Best Ball): Four person team, score one net best ball per hole. Each player on the team is designated a card suit- clubs, diamonds, spades or hearts. At the end of each hole, a card in an envelope will be placed at the next tee box. The player whose suit matches the suit of the card in the envelope will post her score on the card as the team score for the hole. Lowest team score after 9 holes wins.

4 Person Scramble: A 4 Person Scramble is a team format. After each golfer on the team plays a stroke, the teammates compare the results and select the best shot. All players then play the next stroke from that spot.

  • All players in the foursome tee off and then pick the best shot

  • All players in the foursome then hit from that location

  • The ball can be moved within one club length of the best shot (except on the green), but no closer to hole

  • You cannot move out of the rough, sand trap or hazard with your one club length

  • When you are on the green, you all putt from the marked spot.

  • Repeat this process until you hole out.

  • All putts must be holed - no gimmees

  • Teams write down one score for their team on the scorecard

  • Lowest scoring team wins

Shamble: In a "Shamble, each golfer tees off and the best shot is selected, but from that point, each golfer plays his or her own ball until it is holed out. What's fun about a Shamble format is that each person gets the benefit of the best drive, so they typically start out with a nice advantage.

Stableford: Stableford scoring is a stroke-play format in which the high total wins, not the low. That's because, in Stableford, your final score is not your stroke total, but rather the total points you have earned for your scores on each individual hole. A double bogey is 1 point, a bogey is 2 points, a par is 3 points, a birdie is 4 points, an eagle is 5 points, double eagle and hole in one is 6 points.  Ex. if you par the first hole and birdie the second, you've accrued 7 points. Points are added up by the Pro Shop after your scorecard is turned in and the highest total points wins.

Magic Ball: Each team is given a specifically marked colored ball that will rotate among players on each hole. The team is each assigned a number 1-4 based on your scorecard. The first name on the scorecard is #1 and so on down the line. The colored ball rotates to each player in the rotation at each hole. Example: #1 person on the scorecard will play with the magic ball on holes 1,5 and 9. #2 person on the scorecard will play with the magic ball on holes 2 and 6. #3 person on the scorecard will play with the magic ball on holes 3 and 7 and #4 person will play with the magic ball on holes 4 and 8. This is a team game so you will record one score per hole. The score recorded is the magic ball score. If you lose your ball, your team is ineligible to win. At the end of the round, return your ball back to the Pro Shop with your scorecard. Lowest team score wins. If no team brings back the magic ball, the team that kept theirs the longest wins.

Give Me 5!: Golfers keep score for all 9 holes. At the end of the round, we pick the lowest 5 scores to keep.
