MEMORANDUM TO CONTESTANTS

 

U.S. SENIOR WOMEN’S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER

 

The AWGA and the USGA are grateful to Alta Mesa Golf Club for hosting the inaugural US Senior Women’s Open Championship qualifying event. Please remember that we are their guests and our conduct should reflect our thanks. Letters may be addressed to Mr. Scott Brown, Head Golf Professional and Ms. Ann Beljan, General Manager, 1460 N. Club Policies and Amenities:

Alta Mesa Golf Club is a private club with a very active membership. Participants of the US Senior Women’s Open Qualifier will need to limit time spent on the driving range, practice chipping and putting greens while at the facility for practice rounds. The club does not allow cell phone usage in indoor areas at the facility.

 

Field Size & Qualifying Spots

There are 26 contestants in the field at as of May 23, 13 Professionals and 13 Amateurs. The Arizona qualifying site will identify 4 Qualifiers and 3 Alternates. In case of a tie for the final qualifying spot or for the three alternate positions, an immediate hole-by-hole playoff will be conducted for the contestants involved.

 

Pairings & Assigned Start Times

Pairings and order of play were prepared by the USGA and starting times will assigned by the AWGA. Changes to pairings or start times are not permissible for any reason. This is an 18-hole qualifier. Morning tee times have been reserved for our field, beginning at approximately 7:00 a.m., and specific pairings and starting times are available on the AWGA website awga.org under the “Tournament” tab and US Senior Women’s Open Qualifier. Look for the clock icon.

 

Use of Golf Carts

Use of automotive transportation by contestants is prohibited. Caddies may use motorized carts. The cart fee is payable to the golf course prior to the start of the round. Spectators and guests are not allowed to ride in carts. Push carts are permitted; however, participants will need to provide their own as the course does not have these available for rent.  

 

Practice Rounds

Contestants only, may reserve practice rounds by calling the golf shop at (480) 832-3257 . Rates are $45, including a motorized cart. Practice rounds may be booked based upon availability. Additional practice rounds may be booked upon availability, please be aware that the rate of $45 may not be available on these additional practice rounds. Players are invited to play as many practice rounds as desired.

 

USGA Policies in Effect (links to these policies are in the Important Links and Information section)

  1. Alternate Footwear Policy shall be in effect.
  2. The ball each contestant uses shall be named on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls issued by the USGA, and the “One-Ball Rule” shall be in effect.
  3. Use of portable telecommunications equipment is prohibited during all USGA Championships and Qualifying.
  1. The use of distance measuring devices is prohibited.

 

Directions to the Course

The course is located in Mesa south of the North Loop 202 between McKellips Rd and Brown Rd. For exact directions please enter the course address into navigational system of choice.

Course Set up

The course shall be played from a mixed set of tees. The score card for the practice round will be available at the golf shop and in the event portal under “Qualifying Yardages”. The Committee reserves the right to alter the yardage based on weather and course conditions the day of the qualifying. All Local Rules will be listed on the Notice to Contestants. The USGA Hard Card will be attached with the conditions of competition.

 

Practice Facilities & Registration

All practice facilities will open at 6:00 a.m. Registration will open at 6:00 a.m. and will be located on the west side of the golf shop. Please also note that players will need to arrive at the Putting Clock at least 10 minutes prior to the assigned start time for instructions and materials.

 

Food & Beverage Service

PLEASE NOTE: Alta Mesa Golf Club is technically closed on Monday, June 4. There will be no food and beverage available for purchase from the facility. Snacks and water will be available on the 1st tee, as well as, in coolers on the tee of hole #5 and hole #14. There is also a water and ice station at the cart shack at the turn. There will be no beverage cart on the golf course. Please come prepared with food that you may need throughout the day, keeping in mind light snacks, fruit and water will be provided.
