QUALIFYING MEMORANDUM TO PLAYERS

FORMAT/QUALIFYING PLACES: Stroke play competition conducted over 36 holes. The field of 50 contestants will compete for two qualifying place(s) and two alternate positions in the U.S. Women’s Open Championship to be played May 31 – June 3 at Shoal Creek in Shoal Creek, Alabama.

 

REGISTRATION: Players do not need to register upon arriving at Rainier Golf & Country Club.  Players are to report to their assigned starting tees, ready to play, 8 minutes before their starting time. 

 

STARTING TIMES: Attached, and available on the Washington State Golf Association’s website, thewsga.org.  Online scoring will be available during the qualifier.  Tee times will be off the #1 and #10 tees from 7:30 a.m. – 8:50 a.m., and from 1:00 p.m. – 2:20 p.m. LINK TO PAIRINGS

 

PLAYOFF: In the event of a tie for the last qualifying places, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff to determine the final qualifier(s) and the 1st and 2nd alternate if necessary.  All announcements regarding the play-off will be made at the public scoreboard upon completion of the qualifying round.

 

FOOTWEAR: Shoes with traditionally-designed spikes (regardless of composition, i.e., ceramic, plastic, etc.) or spikes, regardless of design, comprised either entirely or partially of metal (if such metal may come in contact with the course) are prohibited during the stipulated round.  Penalty for breach of this condition: DISQUALIFICATION.

 

GOLF BALLS/DRIVERS: The “One Ball Rule” will be in effect. Please check the USGA website, usga.org, for a list of approved golf balls and drivers.

 

GROOVES: The players clubs must conform to the grooves and punch mark specifications in The Rules of Golf that are effective from January 1, 2010 (see Decision 4-1/1).

 

PACE OF PLAY: It is a condition that player must play without undue delay and in accordance with guidelines established by committee.  Guidelines will be distributed via email.

 

EVACUATION PLAN: In the event of a discontinuance of play during the qualifier, players must adhere to the evacuation plan distributed by the Committee at their appropriate starting tee.

 

 

PRACTICE ROUND AVAILABILITY: Contestants may play one hosted practice round. Practice rounds will be available on Sunday, May 13 after 2:00 p.m.  Contestants must call Rainier G&CC golf shop at  (206) 242-2800 to make arrangements. All practice round times are at the discretion of the golf shop staff.

 

PRACTICE FACILITIES/RANGE BALLS: Open at 6:30 a.m. Range balls will be hosted and staged on the range.

 

CADDIES: Host club caddies will not be available. A player may provide her own caddie.

 

CARTS: Players must not ride on any form of transportation during a stipulated round unless authorized by the Committee. Spectator carts are not permitted.

 

GOLF SHOP/LOCKER ROOM: The golf shop and clubhouse locker room will open at 6:30 a.m. 

 

PERSONAL APPEARANCE: Contestants, caddies must be neat in appearance. Bermuda length shorts may be worn. Short shorts, tee shirts, tank tops and blue jeans are prohibited.  Shirts must have collars.

 

FOOD SERVICE: The Rainier Golf and Country Club Main Lounge will be open with a full Lounge Menu to offer from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Participants, caddies and spectators may sit in the Main Lounge or Patio area, as long as the dress code is followed.  No hats and no cell phones.

 

AWARD CEREMONY: Silver medal will be awarded to the lowest scorer and lowest amateur scorer (if not lowest scorer).
