26TH MGA SENIOR PLAYERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP &
20TH MGA MID-PLAYERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
The Wilderness at Fortune Bay
Tower, Minn.
   June 9-11, 2025

Notice to Competitors

Congratulations on making the 26th MGA Senior Players’ Championship or the 20th  MGA Mid-Players’ Championship at The Wilderness at Fortune Bay on June 9-11!  We are excited to have you as part of the Championships and look forward to seeing you there. Here is some important information you need to know about the event. But, if we have missed something or you have other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Championship Fee – The Championship fee for both events is $125 and includes all food & beverage while you are playing at The Wilderness.  We have promoted you into the respective championship and attempted to charge your card on file.  However, if there is an issue with the payment, you will receive an electronic invoice for you to pay.

Championship Format – The format features the “Pool Play” concept similar to the PGA TOUR’s (former) “Dell Match Play.” All players will be placed into groups (pods) of four based on seeding (determined by exemption or qualifying ranks). Each group will play a “round robin” schedule for the first three rounds (Monday AM, PM and Tuesday AM). Players will play matches in twosomes for all three rounds of pool play. Players will earn one point for a win and one-half point for a tie. After three rounds, the player with the greatest number of points in each group will advance to the Quarterfinal round on Tuesday PM. The Semifinal and Final rounds will be played Wednesday AM and PM, respectively.

In the event of a tie in points within a group after three rounds, the players who are tied will playoff on the course in a stroke play, “sudden death” manner. The playoff will begin at the next hole AFTER both matches are concluded in Round 3. For example, Player A wins his match on the 13th hole and finishes with 2 points. Player D wins his match on the 16th hole and finishes with 2 points. A and D will have a playoff beginning on the 17th hole.

Seeding – Players will be seeded as indicated on the Exempt Player list and then as follows.  (NOTE: “Qualifying Score Differential” = score minus course rating)

  • Medalists from Qualifying Sites (based on qualifying score differential)
  • Other Qualifiers (based on qualifying score differential)

Championship Groupings & Starting Times (Monday & Tuesday AM) - These will be posted at NOON (12 pm) Friday, June 6.  Any withdrawal after this time will not be filled and will result in a bye.

Golf Carts – Seniors will be allowed to use golf carts during all rounds. The rate is $90 for Pool Play if you prepay through the MGA or $30 per round if you pay prior to each round.  Each player will receive an electronic invoice for the cart fee.  Please pay it if you wish to use a cart.  You may disregard it if you plan on walking.

Mid-Players’ will be allowed to use carts during the Pool Play but not during the Championship rounds. If you elect to use a cart, you will need to pay the invoice sent in advance or in the Golf Shop prior to starting your match.

Golf Course Setup – Please check the respective Championship webpage for specific details. We reserve the right to alter the setup, including shortening or lengthening holes, on a round-by-round basis.

Lodging – A room block has been created for this event.  Please contact our host, The Wilderness at Fortune Bay, to make reservations – 800/992-4680.  The rate is $149.40 (+tax) per night.

Sunday Mid/Senior Blind Draw Four-Ball Event (Sunday, June 8)The MGA will be conducting our traditional “Mid/Senior Blind Draw Four-Ball” event on the Sunday prior to the Championships.  Here is how it will work.

You sign up for the event through the MGA and will have the opportunity to select a starting time to play a practice round sometime between 1-3 pm.  You may register as 1, 2, 3 or 4 players.  It’s “make your own group.”  The cost is $125 and includes golf, cart, dinner and entry into the Skins game ($10) and Team game ($15).  Once all players have started, the MGA will blind draw a mid & senior player to be a “team.”  Guests are welcome to join you for dinner for $35.   Pre-registration is required in order to know how many will be eating dinner.

Practice Round – If you will not be participating in the Sunday event, limited practice rounds are available on a space available basis.  Please contact The Wilderness Golf Shop (218/753-8917) and identify yourself as an MGA Mid/Senior Players’ contestant to schedule a practice round.  They are offering a rate of $90 (riding).

Additional Information – If you have any other questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me – Doug@mngolf.org or call/text 612/964-4249.
