16th MGA Mid-Amateur Championship

Format

This event is a two-day 36-hole stroke play competition. After 18 holes on Tuesday, October 11th, the field will be cut to the low 40 scores plus ties and anyone within 5 strokes of the low score. Players who make this cut will then play 18 holes on Wednesday, October 12th. The MGA Mid-Amateur Champion will be the lowest score over 36 holes.

If necessary to determine the champion, there will be a sudden death playoff which will begin immediately at the conclusion of regular play. All players should keep informed as to the time and status of any playoff.

Invitation Criteria

Invitations will be extended to Amateur members of MGA Member Clubs who have reached their 30th birthday by October 11th, 2022 who have met the following criteria. Invitations will be sent to players on the dates established below for each category.

*If the field reaches capacity before close of registration players will be added to a waitlist based on time of entry.

Invitations released on June 1st:

• MGA Mid-Amateur Champions
• The top 30 (and ties) finishers in the 2021 MGA Mid-Amateur Championships
• All former winners of the: Met Amateur; Met Open; Ike; or MGA Public Links Championship
• Representative of the Host Club
• Members of the two most recent French/American and Carey Cup Teams
• 36 Hole Finishers at the 2022 MGA Public Links
• Have qualified or are exempt from qualifying for the 2022 Met Amateur; Met Open; or Ike
• Qualifiers and alternates for the 2022 USGA: Open (LQR); Amateur; Mid-Amateur; Senior Amateur; Senior Open; or Four-Ball Championships
• Top 10 finishers in the 2022 MGA Senior Amateur Championships

Invitations released on August 1st
• Current Senior Amateur Champions for NJSGA, WGA, CSGA, LIGA, and NYSGA as of Entry Deadline
• Top 5 Mid-Amateur eligible finishers at each Met Amateur Sectional Qualifier
• Current Amateur Champions for NJSGA, WGA, CSGA, LIGA, and NYSGA as of Entry Deadline
• Current Mid-Amateur Champions for NJSGA, WGA, CSGA, LIGA, and NYSGA as of Entry Deadline

Invitations released on August 31st
• Top 10 Low Amateurs who have made the cut in the 2022 MGA Senior Open Championship

Entry Process

Invitations will be distributed in a tiered order determined by the MGA. Receiving an invitation to compete in the Championships does not guarantee a spot in the final field. We encourage all players who receive an invitation to register as soon as they know they will be available to compete. Once the field has reached full capacity, a waiting list will be implemented based on time of entry. The MGA reserves the right to alter the waiting list as deemed necessary.

Any questions regarding the status of a player’s invitation should be sent to championships@mgagolf.org.

Carts/Caddies • Players may bring their own caddie.
• Players may carry their own bag.
• Pull carts will be approved on a course by course basis, please consult the Memorandum to Players.
• It is strongly recommended that caddies wear shoes without spikes or tread.
• Final information will be released in the Memorandum to Players, which will be released prior to the event.
