Mission to Seafarers Bob Ward (President) met with Kate Powell (Port Chaplain Mission to Seafarers) at the White Star Tavern , in Southampton on 17th February 2026, presenting her with a cheque for £1,590, monies raised from the Silent Auction at the 2025 AGM/Dinner. Thanks to all who made the AGM and Dinner a fabulous affair, and contributing generously to the Mission. |

CURRENT NEWS Presidents Putting Competition 2026 The President's Putting Competition for the John Smith Trophy was held at RWGC on 30th September. 11 Past Presidents attended.

SSGS v Cachalots Match The first SSGS v Cachalots match took place on Tuesday 25th August 2026 at Corhampton G C. The match was played ‘Ryder Cup’ style, with 4 x 4BBB matches + 4 Single matches. Extra half points were awarded for nearest the pin on the 4 par 3 holes. I am very pleased to report the Society won, 7 points to Cachalot’s 2 ½ points. The Society has re-allocated The Cachalots Cup to the winners of this match. The cup originated from the Cachalots and was given to the Society in 2010; therefore, it is very appropriate that it is now competed for in this format. It is proposed this will be an annual event with the team selected by the President of the year. 
Conditions were good and the match was followed by a buffet held on the club house balcony. George Angus, past President of SSGS (2016) and past Captain of the Cachalots (2010), presented the Cachalot Cup to the winning Team. Bob Ward (President) Society Champion 2025 - James Gething
